please inquire for other tour dates, as we're flexible and happy to offer different dates for your group

What would your ideal getaway look like? You might like an occasional adventure and you feel fulfilled when surrounded by beautiful nature but you also appreciate fine wine, splendid cuisine, and have an interest in history that combines it all to a complete experience for all the senses. Istria with its deep history, mild climate, and perfect geographical location might be just what you're looking for. Allow us to take you on a journey that will wake up your adventurous spirit, satisfy your taste buds, immerse you into the rich culture of Istrian people and make you love life for the small things you will experience on the way.

Meet Istria, a fairytale triangular peninsula and the westernmost county of Croatia. Surrounded by the Adriatic Sea on the west and east, and mountains in the north, Istria offers an abundant diversity in landscape and mouthwatering cuisine. Critically acclaimed olive oil and of course splendid wines are the culprit for picturesque sights of numerous olive orchards and vineyards that dot the countryside. The only coat of arms in the world with a white goat on it is uniquely Istrian, symbolizes among others, a long history of dairy farming, making Istrian hard cheese a delicacy.

We'll cycle along the beautiful Istrian coast and through the historical inland of fairytale hills and old Istrian towns. Kayaks will take us through the mesmerising turquoise waters where we'll discover magical caves full of playful gleaming sunlight. National park Brijuni will take us on a gentle walk among exotic animals and breathtaking nature and just when you think there are no more hidden gems we'll go on a hike featuring numerous waterfalls that will prove you wrong.

Pula

arrival

After arrival to Pula, the Adventure Roads team will transfer you to our base for the next 2 days in the center of Pula. After welcome drinks, tour overview, and briefing await, where our fearless tour leaders will fill you in with all the details. Welcome dinner of local cuisine will get your taste buds on high alert for the following week.

Pula - Kamenjak - Medulin - Pula

(BIKE) - distance 50 km (30 mi) / elevation 300 m (1000 ft)

Cape Kamenjak is the southernmost part of the Istrian peninsula and well known for its rugged coastline and rocky cliffs. Some 50 years ago dinosaur traces, estimated to be more than 90 million years old, were found in this area. The rumor has it you can still see their trails if you look carefully or you might find yourself oblivious standing in the middle of one. The route will then take us on the path along the coast where on a nice day wind is gently going through your hair but the Adriatic sea can show you its biggest waves if the rough day catches you.

Pula

(KAYAK) - 3 h

Seagull’s Rocks are located in one of Pula’s neighborhoods and is the westernmost beach in the city. The beach is rocky with high cliffs that are suitable for diving and we'll enter the glimmering water caves which will make you stop in awe and want to immerse yourself into the crystal blue sea. Evening transfer to the picturesque town of Rovinj.

NP Brijuni Island - Rovinj

(HIKE) - distance 10 km (6 mi) / 5 h

The Brijuni Islands were created by separating from what used to be the landmass of the Istrian peninsula, are also a host to Brijuni National Park. There is no other place with so much holm oak and bay laurel in one single place or so much shade under the crowns of trees up to twenty meters wide. Brijuni are a wonderful image of nature cultivated by man, with the aim of providing the most pleasant stay possible in the splendor of green vegetation, remarkably cultivated landscape, and scent and vicinity of the sea. The small area of the National Park is packed with other sights, like the Byzantine castrum, the Mediterranean garden, dinosaur footprints, and a Safari park.
We will spend the day enjoying the walk across Brijuni Islands intoxicated with its smells and views. Shuttle back to the Rovinj hotel.

Buje - Grožnjan - Oprtalj - Motovun

(BIKE) - distance 60 km (38 mi) / elevation 800 m (2600 ft)

The Northwest part of Istria is most famous for its wines, and the secret goal for today's itinerary. We'll visit some of the well-known local winemakers and treat your taste buds. Wine tasting of local wine variety teran (red) and malvazija (white) will get you acquainted with those Istrian gastronomic gems. We'll cycle on the Parenzana cycle route, which was an Italian nickname for pre-WW2 narrow-gauge railway connecting Trieste in Italy and Poreč in Istria. Today's route takes us up to hilltop villages Grožnjan, Oprtalj, and Motovun with some of the most stunning views in Istria. Accommodation in the hotel in Motovun.

Buzet - Motovun

(HIKE) - distance 13 km (8 mi) / 4 h

Istria's inland is hiding some of the most exciting limestone formations carved by the water and magical waterfalls which we will follow by the river Mirna. This walk will take us to the lovely rural village Kotli and we can't guarantee you won't be tempted to refresh yourself in the limestone white and turquoise fresh water pools on the way. Shuttle back to the Motovun hotel.

Pazin - Butoniga - Motovun

(BIKE) - distance 55 km (35 mi) / elevation 1000 m (3300 ft)

By this day you should already be fit enough to fully experience and enjoy the hilly part of central, also least visited, the area in Istria. Far away from the coastal murmur and crowds we will feel the vibes of the past and deep Istrian culture, pass next to families who are still nurturing their grandfather's heritage and witness the remarkable variety of nature that surrounds them.
